Choosing a Payment Gateway
The Checkout Wizard directly configures support for several payment gateway options. To see a list of the payment gateways supported in eCart see the eCart payment gateways page on our website.
Note: If you intend to process credit cards on your website, an account with one of the supported payment gateways is required before proceeding with the Checkout Wizard.
The supported payment gateways provide two different options for how your purchases are processed on your site.
Services fall into two categories: remote and local.
Local Checkout
Local checkout support means that the service allows you to complete the payment transaction without leaving your website.
Remote Checkout
Remote Checkout means that when a customer proceeds to checkout, they will be taken to a different webpage, on the payment gateway's server for processing their credit card details. The customer can then be returned to your site once the purchase has been processed.
Most professional online stores prefer the Local Checkout option as it provides a more seamless customer experience. However, most payment gateways charge higher fees for their Local Checkout service.
What is PayPal Express Checkout?
All local checkout services supported in the Checkout Wizard have the option of including PayPal Express Checkout as an alternative payment method supported in your website. PayPal Express Checkout is a popular remote checkout option that your customers may want to choose when making purchases on your site. This adds an additional "Pay with PayPal" button to your checkout page that will allows customers to complete their purchase through PayPal's website.
