Taxes
If you need to apply a tax or VAT charge to the cart, the Taxes portion of the Checkout Wizard configures tax amounts based on your configuration options.
A merchandising rule is added to the Taxes tab of the eCart Object (see Discounts, Charges, Taxes and Shipping for more information) that applies a tax charge based on the configuration options specified.
These rules can be updated in the eCart Object after completing the Checkout Wizard if you need to customize your configuration, apply multiple tax rules, or create a more advanced tax calculation scenario. The options available for immediate configuration are as follows:

- No thanks, I'll handle tax calculations myself: Skips configuration of tax rules in the Checkout Wizard. Rules can always be added later from within the eCart Object interface.
- Tax rate: A numeric value that sets the percentage of tax calculated based on the cart subtotal.
- Charge to: Sets criteria for applying the tax rate based on geography information gathered from the checkout form.
Note: In the United States, most online stores must charge tax when the purchase is being made from the same state as the online store is based in. Check the laws and regulations in your country or state for more information. - Include shipping in cart subtotal when calculating sales tax: Determines if the shipping charges applied to the cart should be considered taxable for this rule.
Note: Typically, tax is not applied to shipping charges for online stores based in the United States. Businesses in the UK and elsewhere in Europe, typically apply tax on shipping. Check with your local regulations for more information.
