Trouble creating a PHP database connection in CS4
Mac OS X
Dreamweaver CS4
PowerStore3
1&1 server
I am attempting to create a PHP database in DW.
I was instructed to do this in the "Setting up a testing server for a Mac OS X", found in the Dynamic Development Tutorials. I successfully created MAMP and Defined a Dynamic Site in Dreamweaver.
I'm then told, "You've now defined your dynamic site in Dreamweaver, and you are ready to start creating your website's dynamic pages. Your first step should be to create a database connection to tell Dreamweaver what kind of pages you intend to create with this site and where your database is stored."
The next step of "creating a PHP database connection" is where I am stumped. I could not test successfully in DW from the MySQL connection window.
After talking to 1&1 support (double checked all the fields to see that they were correctly filled) they say that I can not access the data base using a remote server. At least I think that is what I understand them to mean.
I did not set-up PS3 using DW but instead directly uploaded to 1&1 first. Should I start out by loading PS3 into DW? If so, please direct me to the instructions for doing this. Or is there a simpler way?
This has led me to this next question: How do I accomplish the following as instructed by Lynda.com in "Defining a DW site"? It first states, "If you have copied your files into place of your php apache server web root folder, your now ready to define your DW site that's associated with php." I'm guessing that means I first need to copy my PS3 files (specifically which ones) into DW, before I go defining a site as directed in the WA instructions, "Setting up a testing server for a Mac OS X". So, any help here as well?
I am getting a grasp of this stuff bit by bit, albeit painfully slow. As everyone now has concluded, I'm "dull" as well as very "green" #%@!
Thanks for your help :)
