Chinese characters in PS3, PowerGallery

Dear All,
has anyone, world-wide, used Chinese (gb2312_chinese_ci (simplified chinese) or utf8_general_ci (utf-8 unicode)) with PS3, and with PowerGallery, both for text on pages (navigation etc) and data in database?

I have seen some problems in the forum with european character support, and I am lothe to give even the faintest encouragement to my customer unless someone, somewhere, has already had experience with this.

(I'm just a junior erk, a newbie at all this PS, why couldn't I have a customer who wants a simple solution, selling 3cm diameter water pipes, or plastic guttering, or bathtaps, why does this happen to me? ... )

As usual, any help or advice, gratefully received ~ Nick

I'm not sure how you would get the Chinese character sets to work correctly in the store. There can be issues when trying to add in foreign character sets that I have seen before. If you can get the text to show and work with a regular php page and MySQL db then you should be able to do the same for the PowerStore pages. Sorry that I can not be of more help on this.

Hi Nicola,

PowerGallery, as well as Powerstore 3 are highly customizable products, even for foreign characters like European languages (and to my knowledge, also for displaying Chineese ones). Good skills in PHP, AJAX, character encoding and decoding are of great advantage to find your way. So, if you're not a regular developer, find a friend who could assist you !

By the way, here are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to use the "specials" like Chineese characters (same for European ones):

a) the database, the tables, the text field collation and the connection collation should be set to utf8_unicode_ci (works best from my own experience with European "specials")

b) replace all "charset=utf-8" with the corresponding ISO for Chineese characters in the <meta> tags of every PHP file. Try ISO-2022-CN. It should work fine.

c) replace the "?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\" to "?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"ISO-2022-CN\" in the xxxxxx_data1.php (and xxxxxx_data2.php) files contained in the DynamicWebCharts subdirectory.

You will also have to adjust or complete the number_format function in the PHP pages and make several other minor adjustments in the code.

Anyway WA has a great tech support and they help a lot to make us customize their products to our specific nedds.

If you have further questions regarding the "specials", so post them here.
