User Login Issue

User Login Issue

I have registered several users to test my store. The user is logged initially after registering however once logged out cannot log back in. When I attempt to login it appears as if the login screen simply refreshes and I am back where I started. In each case the email is confirmed.

How do I resolve this issue. Does it have anything to do with the IP address that is stored?

Any help is appreciated.

The user should not be restricted from logging in once they are registered and confirmed. It looks like the page just refreshes when the user clicks on the login button? Is there any error message present? What is in the address bar when this happens? Do you see any accesscheck variables with page names present?

Please post back with this info and a copy of the login page, or let me know if it is the default version of this page. If there is no access check in the address bar then the authenticate user server behavior may not be getting triggered properly. I have seen issues with certain triggers before on various servers, for example the http_referrer is not always set the same for every server so the check for this could be not passing. I have no idea if this is what you are experiencing but if you can post back with any additional details it will help.

Eric.

Nothing seems to change in the address bar other than the progress bar. Below is the address for the store if you want to give it a try. I'm stuck for why this is happening.

index.php

One other question regarding registering. I get a "specific strength" error with some password attempts but there is no text to indicate any requirements for passwords. Are the requirements noted somewhere so I can put some text on the registration page to guide customers.

Thank you for your help.

Rick.

Hi Rick,

I've just tried to register and login into your site. It obviously records the username(email) and password, but certainly doesn't fire off an email confirmation and does not allow me to login.

Because I was unable to login, I again completed the registration procedure and quite rightly the site pointed out that there was already a registered user with those details.

I'm also trialling a site which appears to be working OK in that regard. If it helps you, try it out at www.stringer-family(dot)co(dot)uk

Regards,

User Login Issue

David.

This confirms the issue. Now I wonder does any one know the reason and have a solution. It'll be hard to do business if customers can't login.

Rick.

Perhaps you have been working on the issue and resolved it. I was able to visit your site and register. I was immediately logged in after this. I then visited my profile page to confirm my entered details. I was able to click on the verify button to get a verification email sent to me.

When I clicked on the link in the email the site informed me that I was registered and verified. I was able to then logout and log back in without issue. The only thing that I noticed was that I did not get a registration email and had to click the verify button to get the message. I have attached some screen shots for reference.

Eric,

How strange! The database obviously has my details recorded, but the site will not let me enter. The reason I know the details are recorded is that I clicked on the 'forgot password details' and put in my email address and received the correct details via email.

Would it help to re-upload the files pertinent to the login operation? Just a suggestion.

What are the next steps to resolving this issue? I need to get this working so I can complete and launch the store. Paypal is now charging me my monthly fee.

I'm not sure exactly what the issue is. It seems to be working for me as it should be. What are the exact steps that you guys are taking that give you the bad results, please be as specific as possible and include details about the browser and version as well as the os and version you are doing this on.

If the scripts on the page had bad code in them or were not complete I would not be able to get the positive result that I did, so I'm thinking that the problem might have some other factors that have not been exposed yet. Reproducing the issue is always the first step in trying to troubleshoot a problem like this.

Hi Eric,

I was going to give the detail you asked for, but before doing so, gave the webpage another try. I, like you, managed on this occasion to login and fill out all the detail requested. I was also in a position to verify my email address on the site.

I presume that Rick has been working on the site and has now rectified any problems with it!! Hopefully.

But if there is still a problem at his end, I'm operating on Firefox 3.6.6 and XP Pro SP3.

Hope this helps!
