secure a pdf download

my client has a few pdf files that they want to be viewed by members only. I know that I can place a link on a secured page to these files, but it doesn't stop someone from forwarding the link to the pdf.

My workaround had been inserting :
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
window.location = "http://www.domain.com/assets/pdf/2013.perlmutter_3daymortgagedisclosure.pdf">
//-->
</script>
at the top of a page, and creating a page for each file. Then I apply SA access pages manager to these pages to allow/deny access.

The client is looking to add more files, so I was hoping there is a way to add SA security rules to a directory like www.domain.com/assets/pdf/membersfiles

security assist cannot protect a directory or PDF Files, security assist can only be used to protect php pages.

you should store the pdf files in a directory under the websites root folder so that the files cannot be accessed directly from a web address.

then on the PHP pages, use Security assist to protect access and the file download behavior to download the files.

I have a similar problem, so thanks for the guidance Jason. I'm curious as to how you would build the URL to link to the PDF file though if it's outside the root directory??

You don't actually build a link, you would create a file download behavior with DataBridge. When I click the WebAssist menu in DW, scroll down to "File Manipulation" and select download or upload...whichever suits your need.
