PayPal saying that parent_txn_id variable is no longer valid?

We have an IPN page on our server which updates our order table when an order is refunded at PayPal. I attach that file.
PayPal are saying that variable parent_txn_id is no longer valid and that we should update this to txn_id.
Have you heard about this, and should we do it?

It is still on the list:

and I think they are distinctly different. I think the refund has its own transaction ID, but the Parent Transaction ID is the id of the original purchase.

I would say don't change it. Most likely the person that told you that didn't know what you were doing. I'm not positive... I'd like to know how and why Paypal told you that, but it seems wrong to me.
