What do you need to start?

1. Dreamweaver CS4 or higher.
2. eCart 6 or higher installed and activated in Dreamweaver.
   
3. Site defined in Dreamweaver - Watch video tutorial: Setting up a site in Dreamweaver.
   
4. Saved PHP page with shopping cart. For assistance, view this tutorial: Add a shopping cart.
   
5. Connection in Dreamweaver to your database. For assistance, view this tutorial: Create a PHP database connection.
6. MySQL database. If you do not have one, you can download our free eCommerce MySQL database in this tutorial.
7. Set up an account with a supported payment gateway if you process credit cards. For assistance, view this tutorial: Online payment solutions.
   
8. Shipping provider account if you ship physical goods. For assistance, view this tutorial: Online shipping solutions.

Payments

The Payments tab is where you will determine whether payment information will be collected at your site (local checkout) or if users will enter their payment information after being redirected to the checkout provider's website (remote checkout).

1. Payment provider options: Go to Online Payment solutions in the eCommerce tutorial series to learn which payment provider options best fit your needs.
   
   
2. Local checkout: (will install a SSL certificate to allow seamless checkout from my web site): Selecting this radio button will populate local checkout providers and services in the Payment Provider and Provider Service menus. You will be required to purchase an SSL certificate to guarantee the security of your customer's payer information during its transfer to the payment provider.
   
   
3. Remote checkout: (will rely on my payment provider for a secure checkout experience): Selecting this radio button will populate remote checkout providers and services. You will not be required to purchase an SSL certificate because the provider will be responsible for the security while collecting your customer's payer information.
   
   
4. Payment Provider: From this menu, select the provider that you will be using to process your checkout.
   
   
5. Provider Service: If your payment provider offers more than one service, select the preferred service from the menu.
   
   Generally, most providers offer both remote and local checkout methods. However, some providers (for example PayPal), provide multiple types for both methods.
   
   
6. PayPal Express Checkout: Use PayPal's Express Checkout exclusively or as an alternative to your main provider. This offers your customers the option of paying with their PayPal account or credit card on the PayPal site.
   
   
7. In-Context Checkout: An option exclusive to PayPal's Express Checkout, your checkout page will present a lightbox where your customer's billing information will be gathered. This option requires an SSL certificate to guarantee the security of your customer's payer information during its transfer to the payment provider.

Payments Pro settings

1. PayPal settings: PayPal offers several options that give different levels of customization for your online checkout pages. If you choose to install an SSL certificate, choose between Payments Pro, Payflow Pro, and Payments Advanced. Alternately, if you decide to use remote checkout, choose between Payflow Pro and Payflow Link.
   
   Follow the link in the Payments tab of the eCart Checkout Wizard to sign up for the specific PayPal account of your choice.
   
   
2. Credentials: You will be prompted by your payment provider to enter credentials before you can log in. If you can't locate the information, your credentials are usually held in the account settings on your payment provider's website.
   
   Some non-PayPal payment providers may require you to enter your credentials for that provider as well as PayPal credentials if you chose PayPal's Express Checkout.

   5. In the Orders tab, you will configure your order storage options.
      
   6. In the Email tab, you will enter your email server settings.
      
   7. In the Form Design tab, you will select your checkout form from preset designs.
