PowerStore comes ready for you to upload directly to your live server and begin using. Built into the product is the Installation Wizard, which allows you to completely set up this pre-built site in just a few steps.
This guide runs you through the process of uploading the files and running through the Installation Wizard.
- PowerStore
- Hosting Provider and MySQL database
You will need to have already signed up for a hosting service from a hosting provider, and have access to a MySQL server to store your database. Click here for instructions on how you can set hosting up.
With PowerStore, the first step is to upload all these files to your live server.
Please be sure the folder that contains PowerStore's files is named 'powerstore' to help prevent conflicts with other solution packs. Assuming the folder is named 'powerstore, you can then upload the entire folder to the root of your remote site.
For more information, see the Uploading Solution Packs tutorial.
Once all the files are uploaded, open your web browser and navigate to the directory you uploaded the files to. This will initiate the Installation Wizard.
The PowerStore Installation Wizard is designed to help you get this Solution Pack up and running as quickly as possible. The Installation Wizard will perform a server check, as well as set up your database for you and ask you general questions about your online store.
The following outlines the various steps of the Installation Wizard.
Activation
PowerStore 4 will ask you for your WebAssist serial number for you to begin the Installation process. Your serial number is provided for two domains (one for testing and one for your live domain). You can obtain your serial number from the WebAssist Download Center.
Server Settings
The Server Settings step displays the result of the Server Diagnostic Check. This check analyzes your server and will alert you if necessary features are not enabled.
If anything fails, resolve the issue and click Run Test Again to see if it is fixed.
Database Info
The database info step allows you to enter the details for the database you intend to use for PowerStore, so that the Installation Wizard can automatically add all the database tables to your database for you.
Watch a video on obtaining your database credentials or creating a new database.
Upgrading from PowerStore 3?
If you already have an existing PowerStore 3 store and wish to upgrade that store to PowerStore 4, simply enter the same database credentials for your PowerStore 3 site in this step. The Installation Wizard will automatically update your database and complete the Installation Wizard for you, based on the information already entered into your database.
Store Details
The Admin Login step allows to specify the username and password for the "Super Administrator". You will be able to create other administrative accounts from within the PowerStore Admin.
Payment Info
The Payment Info step allows you to specify the payment gateway you wish to use for processing credit card details on your store.
Shipping & Taxes
If you have already uploaded images to your live server, you can use the Import Images function to import those images into your PowerStore. Images can also be imported from within the Administrative Area.
Using the Store Manager
Once you have completed the Installation Wizard, you will be provided a summary of what was accomplished and directed to the PowerStore Store Manager. You will no longer be able to access the Installation Wizard, and can do everything you need to do from within this area.
You can access the PowerStore Store Manager at any time by opening your browser, enter the URL to your PowerStore site (where you uploaded the files to) and append 'admin' to the end of the URL. Example: http://mysite.com/admin
From within the PowerStore Store Manager, you can completely set up your store. If you are a developer setting this store up for a client, there are other tasks you may want to perform. For example, you can create administrative accounts for your clients that prevent them from accessing certain areas. Also, the built-in help system can be customized for you to create content targeted towards your client, and remove content that you may not want your client to see.
